  • Music Education Overview

Designed for prospective elementary, middle, and secondary school music teachers, a Music Education emphasis at Colorado State University is a gateway to employment and growth in musical excellence. Upon successful completion of the degree, students are qualified for licensure to teach Kindergarten through Grade 12 Vocal and Instrumental music. The Music Education Degree at Colorado State University requires 126 credits: approximately 60 credits in music, 40 credits in teacher education, and 26 credits in All University Core Curriculum. One of the strengths of this degree is the opportunity for early experiences in schools AND the emphasis on performance and personal musicianship. The Teacher Licensure program at CSU is nationally-accredited by NCATE and includes more than 800 hours of on-site work in schools as well student teaching experiences in elementary and secondary schools.
