This unique program is designed for music educators which enables you to earn a master’s degree while continuing to work full-time. With the exception of a two-week summer seminar held on the CSU campus, all course work can be completed online or using your own school orchestra, choir, or band as your conducting laboratory.
The annual summer conducting seminar includes hands-on, workshop style sessions taught by CSU faculty as well as some of the most prestigious pedagogues from around the country. The curriculum focuses on score preparation, baton technique, rehearsal strategies, and suggested repertoire. Projects are designed for your particular teaching situation for immediate implementation in your program. The seminar also includes sessions on instrumental and vocal techniques, performance practice (from the Renaissance through Contemporary music), the National Standards for Music Education, advocacy tools for retaining and expanding school music programs, and the Laban Method for Expressive Conducting.
